Testimonials Wanted!!

Parents and Volunteers! I would love your help! On our website we have a spot for testimonials from camper's parents and volunteers about the benefits of therapeutic riding and the changes you see at TACO. I would love to be able to add some more testimonials to our page.

If you would like to contribute,  email me your testimonial at 4htaco@gmail.com. Below is the link to our site and you can read some of the testimonials we have added.

New Volunteer/Campers Applications

To help simplify paperwork we have created a new application system!
The purpose of this application is to gather information on volunteers or campers that are interested in volunteering or participating with TACO. We will keep your application on file and when we set dates for our specific camps we will contact you about it. We are also hoping this will allow us to recruit volunteers and campers year round, instead of only during "camp time."

Each volunteer/camper will still need to fill out a health history form, equine wavier, and standards of behavior form YEARLY; but this application will only need to be filled out every two-three years, as long as your information remains the same! The hope with this new application is to cut down on paperwork.

Once the date is set for the upcoming TACO camp, we will post the date on our Facebook page, website, and blog. We will also contact you by mail and email. You will receive a letter in the mail regarding the upcoming camp; you will only need to send a short slip back stating if you are able to attend or not! We will also have sign ups available through a Google document if you prefer to register online!  You will no longer need to fill out the 2 page application for every camp!

At this time, our volunteer interest application is ready, I just need to add reference forms, and I am still working on the camper interest application. ALL current campers/volunteers will need to complete these applications when they become available.

I would love any feedback you have on this new process.

Fall Day Entertainment

We had a fantastic entertainment for our 2013 Fall Day! Doug Edwards, Jeff Rankin, and Fred Wilson came to Elmwood with their quarter horses to give us a cattle working demonstration. Doug lost his arm as a young child in farming accident, as you can see in the video below- his horse is use to everything being done by Doug with only one arm! Jeff has Cerebral Palsy. He started riding and is now working cattle, he went thorough a number of horses to find the right one for him. These three gentleman put a lot of work into coming to Elmwood for our campers; including bringing 3 cows and 4 horses over! It was a delight watching them work and being able to ride with them. We look forward to many more events with them in the future.

TACO Fall Fundraisers

Below is information regarding 3 fundraisers TACO will be hosting this Fall!

The first item we are offering are hooded sweatshirts. They can be ordered in pink, blue, or grey. The sweatshirts will have TACO's logo screen printed on the front pocket (like our t-shirts) with a full sized logo on the back. The sweatshirts will be $25 for sizes small through extra-large and $28 for 2XL. We are offering the sweatshirts for only $1.00 more than our cost. We would like for this to be something for our campers and parents to wear to raise community awareness about TACO. Orders will be due by November 8, with delivery by the end of November. These would make great Christmas presents!

The second item we have available is through Virginia Pewtersmith. They offer pewter key chains and Christmas ornaments that are approximately 2 and a half inches in size. Each key chain or ornament has an imprint of TACO’s logo. These are great items and the company is very easy to work with. The key chains and ornaments are available for $10 each! These orders will be due by November 8, with delivery by the end of November. They would also make a great Christmas present!

Every year the 4H organizes a poinsettia sale for all of their clubs. This year TACO will be participating. The poinsettias are $7.00 for 6 inch pots and $13.00 for 8 inch pots. Orders are due by November 21, and will need to be picked up December 4 from 4-6:30 pm or December 5 from 8-5pm at the Orange Extension Office.

All orders must be prepaid for. Checks should be made payable to "Treasurer of Virginia Tech" with "Orange County" in the memo line. There is a $35 return check fee.

Order forms will be sent to campers via mail and will be available at the Orange County Extension Office or by email.

Order forms will be sent to campers by mail this coming week. Also, below is a copy of the letter that will accompany the order forms.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING FALL DAY!

Attention Fall Camp Volunteers and Campers!!!

Due to the weather forecast for Friday, we are working to prepare in case we need to cancel our Fall Day! We will NOT cancel for small rain showers/sprinkles, but we will need to cancel if there is heavy rain! We obviously hope that we will not need to, but we would like to be prepared just in case!

We will make a decision based on the weather no later than 1 pm on FRIDAY! In the event of cancellation, we need to be able to notify our volunteers and campers!

There are a few ways I can notify you and I would appreciate your help!

1st option: Sign up for Remind101 text messages. To sign up for Remind101 (it is completely free!) Send a text message to 571-414-0091 and enter the code @f5233 in the message of the text. You will be prompted with a text message to enter your name and confirm your subscription.

I will be using this service for all TACO Events, including reminders about camps, events, deadlines, and weather related changes! So, it would be very helpful if as many people as possible can sign up for it!

2nd option: E-mail

3rd Option: Phone call

4th option: Facebook

Please email me at 4HTACO@gmail.com which option you would prefer to be notified by in case of a weather related cancellation on Friday. Also, please make sure that we have your correct email or phone number on file if that is the option you would like.

Thank you for your help and I hope the rain holds off for us on Friday!
